Secondmonday – ‘Rewrites Won’t Coverup’ (Lockjaw Records LJCD037)

I’ve finally managed to stop listening to this CD for 10 minutes to write this review. Every once in a while you get one that you just keep on playing over and over again. 6 tracks of absolute brilliance! This is definitely one to buy. I can’t get the first track ‘this is not everything’ out of my head. Quite complex emo style song structures which you think are going to fall apart at any moment but then you are swamped with another wave of passionate noise. I didn’t really want to mention that their average age is just 16, as the music’s brilliance speaks for itself. However, you will be amazed. If they’re this good already I can’t wait for the next album. I’ve mentioned this is emo in flavour but don’t think this is just another emo band as there are plenty of varied influences in here. There’s some great subtle use of piano dotted around this album which adds to it’s intensity. You can tell that a great deal of thought and talent has gone into writing these songs. Ok, I’m off to listen to this again! Make sure you get your copy.
